This weekend was the perfect mix of fun and relaxing.
Friday night, TG and I went to see Water For Elephants. We both really liked it.
By the way, movie food and candy has gotten even more ridiculous. $4.50 for a water! And I saw on the menu that a meal of fries, chicken tenders and a drink = $17.50. How crazy is that?
Reese Witherspoon is so adorable. And I know all you twilight lovers will shudder but...it was nice to see Robert Pattinson all cleaned up.
He always looks so dirty. Clean and in a tuxedo=much better!
I was not prepared for the animal cruelty in this movie. I'm such an animal lover. My eyes welled up with tears more than once.
Saturday morning started our with a little car trouble. (TG's, not mine). He just got a new car and something already went wrong. Thankfully that something isn't anything huge.
So, I got to ride in a tow truck. Thanks to my AAA membership (Thank you, Grandmama Louise!), the towing was free.
TG got a loaner car and we continued on our happy way.
We had lunch at a little hidden gem of a place. Butler's Carolina BBQ.
People have strong feelings about their BBQ and which style is best.
We wholeheartedly believe that North Carolina BBQ (vinegar based sauce) is the best.
This little place even served Cheerwine and Sundrop! Perfection.
I had a BBQ sandwich with slaw on top, a side of fried okra, and a side of mac and cheese.
I told TG, "I feel like I have the South in my mouth."
Sunday we ventured to a new church which we loved! Easter Sunday is always so uplifting. I'm always reminded of how much bigger HE is than I am. And I'm always so humbled by how much He loves us.
After church, we exchanged Easter baskets. I was so glad to have candy again. TG also put a new pair of pink J. Crew shorts in my basket. I may or may not have mentioned them last week.
We spent the afternoon over at our friends' house and enjoyed a delicious Easter dinner. It's nice to have friends to spend holidays with when we can't be with our families.
Wednesday I'm heading home to North Carolina for my good friend's wedding weekend. And to spend some time with my family. I haven't been home since Christmas!
I still need to post a recap from when my sister was here. I'm trying to get all my grad school work done before I leave Wednesday. I hate having to do work while I'm home with my family. Hopefully I can get it all done before then.
This baby giraffe has nothing to do with anything at all. He's just the cutest thing I've ever seen.
I enjoyed a mini stay-cation with my sister the past few days. Now I'm feeling overwhelmed by the amount of work that needs to be done.
I can't wait to eat candy on Sunday. I told TG that I may need a medic on site in case I go into diabetic shock.
I loooved having my sister here.
We are celebrating Easter and enjoying an Easter lunch with some friends this weekend. After going to church, of course. I haven't bought an "Easter dress" in a few years. My mom used to dress all four of us up in matching smocked outfits.
I'm obsessed with my NOMI candle. It was love at first sniff when I smelled it burning in the bathroom at the NOMI lounge of the Park Hyatt in Chicago. I told TG how much I loved it and then his step-mom gave me two for Christmas. Score.
The lack of blogging the past week has been directly correlated to graduate school work & playing with my sister. Weekend recap and giveaway coming very soon.
I'm linking up over at Kelly's Korner today for Show Us Your Life. The topic this week is reading lists. I love to read but only once I get past the first chapter of a book. I feel like I'm in la la land for the first few pages of most books I read. Anywho, I've got a few books in mind for spring/summer reading.
It's no secret that I love Bethenny. Although her mood swings are starting to get on my nerves, I love her anyway.
I definitely want to read Bethenny's new book: A Place of Yes.
I started reading The Help when my friend Tess was visiting but then got sidetracked with schoolwork and life. I was really enjoying the first few chapters of it though. I think I will try to pick it up again this weekend.
I can't wait for Jen Lancaster's new book to come out, If You Were Here. I've read two of her books, Bitter is the New Black & Bright Lights, Big Ass. Both are hilarious. I wouldn't mind reading her book Pretty in Plaid as well.
You should also check out her blog, Jennsylvania. It's hysterical and entertains me on a daily basis.
I've also been wanting to read Crazy Love by Francis Chan.
I have very special company this weekend. Tomorrow afternoon, I will pick up my dear sister from the airport. And then...4 whole days of sisterly fun will begin! Weeee!
I feel really lucky that I have such a close relationship with my sister. I know that not everyone has that. It truly is a blessing.
It's her spring break week and I'm so glad she decided to come see me. I can't believe my little Syd is going to be graduating from high school in like, a month...(-ish). Come August, she will be attending the same university as I did. Keepin' the legacy alive.
Every time we talk about college, I get so excited for her. Ah, nostalgia. She laughs at me because I say lame things like "You're going to have the time of your life", or "Seriously, it's the best" while grinning ear to ear. I'm cheesy like that.
While I am so excited about the next chapters of my life, I sometimes wish I could relive my college days. I feel like college went by so quickly. Don't you think? I had a wonderful "college experience" and I don't think I would really do anything differently. Did you love your college years?
Here are some activities I have planned:
1) Go to Yogurtology (or try the new Pinkberry in Tampa!)
2) Sunshine-y Lunch in downtown St. Petersburg
3) Go visit our alligator friends.
(I need to recondition myself to not be afraid. I was much less afraid of living among reptile beasts until I saw a disturbing scene of Planet Earth last night. Without warning a HUGE gator came out of the water and drowned an antelope and then ate it..Eesh.)
