Unpacking & Progress

We are finally living in a furnished apartment. We're still unpacking and rearranging things but it's looking more and more like a place people live!

This is still in progress so no judging.. but here's the living room so far.

I can't wait to get our pictures and art hung. I'm thinking we may do a gallery wall arrangement on the wall behind the couch. Yes?

We also have two club chairs we are having covered to go on the other side of the couch. I'm going to try to find some kind of lucite table to go between the club chairs.

Oh, and I couldn't help myself. I need to manage the cord situation too. Eesh.

And these guys are adjusting to their new home as well.

I ate dinner with TG's step mom last night and she gave me some fresh flowers. It's always nice to have fresh flowers around. Adds a little bit of special, don't you think? I think they go perfectly in this old mason jar I picked up at the Randolph Street Market on Saturday. I also found a great vintage necklace.

Hope you're having a great Tuesday : )

My other home.

A while back I started a tumblr account. I wasn't sure I would ever use. Now, I've come to really like it. I will still be using this site as my main blog but feel free to visit my 2nd little spot on the internet.

A Big Little Life (On Tumblr)

That's all for now.

In case you are wondering (which you are probably not), our furniture has still not come. It has been almost a month. We ended up having to get an attorney involved. The guy that runs the moving company is a scam artist of sorts. Apparently a ton of other people have had similar issues. Some people have even had their stuff held until they pay thousands more dollars (than the original cost of the move). Crazy stuff, people.

Apparently I am a dinosaur. I always tend to believe that people will be honest and do the right thing. Turns out, they don't.

They are now saying our stuff will be here Saturday...so...fingers crossed. Until then, we will continue sleeping on an air mattress that slowly deflates during the night. We can't find the hole and it but we do wake up almost on the floor each morning so we know it's there.

Any good netflix recommendations? All we have for entertainment is our computers. We have already watched an entire 2 seasons of Parks and Recreation and several documentaries. Suggestions would be appreciated.

P.S. I promise to stop whining about my move..eventually.

Saturday night we stopped in at Feast (the Gold Coast location) for dinner and drinks. We hadn't planned on it but it was so nice outside and they have an outdoor seating area. Who doesn't love dining al fresco? We figured we better enjoy it while we can. The Chicago winter will be here before we know it.

TG and I shared the Tuna Trio appetizer which was tuna tartar, seared sesame crusted tuna, tuna sashimi, wonton chips, wasabi, sweet soy and pickled ginger. Delish.

For my entree, I ordered the chicken breast stuffed with herbed goat cheese, potato gnocchi, spinach, grape tomatoes and lemon beurre blanc. It was absolutely amazing. It was total comfort food and deliciously rich. I would definitely order it again.

TG got a pasta special with crab meat, which was delicious as well.

For dessert, we shared the fudge brownie sundae. It was super rich but quite the treat. It was a really great version of a classic dessert.

I've also heard Feast has a really great brunch menu so we will likely be returning!

The Weekend

Since there's nothing to unpack yet, we will be forced to go out and have fun instead.

I'm thinking we may head over to Grant Park tonight for some dinner in the park via some Chicago Food Trucks. (We will likely grab a bottle of wine on the way too...just for good measure.) I'm excited to try something new and hopefully there will be some good eats.

Chicago's Air and Water show is tomorrow so we will be heading to the beach to enjoy that. The best part? It's free!

However, I'm most excited about heading over to the museum tomorrow to finally see The Bodies exhibition. I have seriously been itching to go ever since I saw the advertisements for it in the nyc subway back in 2006. Long time coming! Have you seen it? I've heard it's pretty awesome.

What are your weekend plans?

Well, we are officially Chicago residents. I've been so out of the blogging loop the past 2 months with packing, moving, and trying to get settled in. Plus, I went back to NC to spend a week at the beach with my family. We enjoyed long days laying on the beach reading and talking, my sweet Grandmama Louise's delicious cooking, and plenty of BLT's for lunch. I find that the older I get, the more I really value and enjoy my family. I miss them already! My sister moves into college Thursday--such an exciting time!

I'm so ready to settle in and get organized. Unfortunately, we've faced some major obstacles with our moving company. They picked up our stuff on July 28 and have been giving us the run around ever since. Our stuff was supposed to be here the first or 2nd week in August. Well folks, today is August 17. We are praying our stuff gets to us (intact) by the end of this week. Once we get our stuff, I will certainly be writing a review of their company. You can't even imagine the lack of professionalism these people have shown.

I got home last night to 2 excited dogs. Barkley has been sticking close to me since I got back. I think he's trying to keep an eye on me so I don't leave him again.

I have pictures to upload so hopefully I can get around to that this week too. I'm excited to post pictures of our place once we get unpacked and what not.

Hope you're having a great week.
