Midweek Confessions

I'm linking up with E, Myself, and I today for Mid-week Confessions.  I read hers almost every week and I love her candid confessions (and she's pretty funny).

  • I ate half of a bag of Hershey Easter egg candy last night.  In my defense, Easter candy is my absolute favorite and these particular candies only come out once a year.
  • I want an iphone purely so that I can take instagram photos.
  • I sometimes wear pants 3 or 4 times in between washes. What? Pants don't get dirty as fast...right?
  • I have a bad habit of doing lots of laundry, taking it out of the dryer and then putting it on a couch or chair and looking at it for a week before ever folding it.
  • When I watch The View, I get unreasonably irritated by Whoopi Goldberg.  Her hair is always in her face and it drives me a little crazy.  And it appears that she takes on the personal challenge of trying to wear the world's ugliest shoes every single day of her life.
What are you confessing? Head on over to E's blog and link up!

Friday Thoughts

We woke up to a little bit of (sloshy) snow this morning in Chicago. This winter has been unusually mild but I'm still ready for summer. Summer in Chicago is the absolute best. (The best, I say!)  I'm ready for street festivals and dining outside!

Barkley finally went to the groomer yesterday.  He was a little nervous when I dropped him off (tail tucked, legs shaking), which was pretty sad.  He looked so great when I picked him up! He got a pretty significant haircut and looks like such a puppy.

Pretty sweet, right?
And I can't have this sweet guy feeling left out.

Giuliana and Bill Rancic's Chicago restaurant, RPM Italian, opens in March.  I love them both and can't wait to try their restaurant.

My sister visits a week from today! I'm so very excited to see her and play!

This weekend will consist of a going away party at Theory for Tess and Joel (boo!) and watching the Oscar's on Sunday.

Monday I will be attempting to start my VB6 regime (aka: vegan before 6pm).  I'm hoping this will be a switch to a more structured and healthy way of eating during the week. For the record, I'll be eating all kinds of dairy goodness on the weekends. I'm not going to be super obsessive over it but I just want to get back to eating a healthier diet of mostly fruit, veggies, and whole grains (quinoa for the win!).  Have you tried VB6? Did you like it?

Happy weekend, people!

Spring Fever

Spring Fever
So it's not even March yet but I'm craving spring clothes in a big way.  Here are some items I'm thinking of adding to my closet. I live in bright colored shorts during the summer. I've been talking about getting the gold glitter Tom's for awhile now.  Are these as comfy as everyone says?  Hope these bright springy items brighten up your Tuesday.  Come on warm weather!

Happy Weekend

This afternoon at 5 o'clock kicks off my weekend...and an entire week off of work. (!!!)

I have a few things planned including...

-Double date dinner at Girl and the Goat with Tess and Joel.  (Chef Stephanie Izard of Girl and the Goat won season 4 of Top Chef)

-Bethenny Ever After season premiere!

-Walks with these two

-Seeing 'The Vow' (likely alone...and likely with some m&ms)

-Finishing my campaign dresser project. If I don't do anything else, this must get done.

-Work on gallery wall for my bedroom
-A lovely trip to the dentist. Boo.

New York: Part Three

Saturday night, we ate at an italian restaurant in the west village.  After dinner, we met up with my close friend (and freshman year roommate & sorority sister), Tess. We had drinks at The Highlands in the west village and caught up on life.

Amy and Joslyn had an earlier flight than me on Sunday so we said our goodbyes and I scooted back over to the west village to spend the day with Tess.  We went to a small nearby restaurant and got lunch then strolled through her cute neighborhood.  Our day was made complete with a trip to 16 handles, another great frozen yogurt place.

I had a great time in NYC but I was glad to be back home in Chicago.

New York: Part Two

You can read part NYC: part one here.

Saturday we had a food tour with Foods of NY Tours.  Even if you live in NYC, you would still enjoy these tours as they have them for a variety of neighborhoods.  A few of the people on our tour lived in the east village.

This was definitely a highlight of our trip.  If you find yourself planning a trip to NYC, do yourself a favor and book a food tour through this company.  They have tours through tons of neighborhoods but ours was in NoLita/NoHo.  During our stops, we noshed on delicious treats to the tune of gourmet cupcakes, pizza, cuban sandwiches, cookies, and unique appetizers.  Everything we ate was different and delish.   I snapped a few photos throughout the tour.

NoLita

Stop #1: The Little Cupcake Bakery
So adorable!
We had Brooklyn Blackout cupcakes here.

Stop #2: Emporio
We had fresh brick oven pizza topped with mozzarella, ricotta, arugula, prosciutto, and cherry tomatoes.

Stop #3: Can't remember the name but we had a Cuban Sandwich topped with garlic dill pickles and a side of seasoned kale chips. We also ordered some sangria that wasn't included in the tour ; )

 Sweet friends.

Stop #4: Tacombi NYC

We tried 2 kinds of their specialty tacos: corn & pork.

Stop #5: The Smile. This place is apparently tiny so we didn't go inside.
We sampled their Ricotta & cherry tomato on multigrain which was one of my favorite tastings.  So very simple yet so very tasty.
Stop #6: Our final stop was at Peels.  They were slammed for brunch but had a nice little outdoor spot to hang out while we waited for the next tasting: salted chocolate cookies. These were right out of the oven and so so good.
Related: How awesome is that door color?

Stop by for part 3 tomorrow!

New York:Part One

Last Thursday I headed to NYC for a girls weekend with two of my sweet friends, Amy & Joslyn.  We've been friends since high school and our friendship is such a blessing to me.  The big apple did not disappoint.

Thursday night we went to a nearby restaurant for late night snacks and a couple of drinks.  The food was decent but nothing to write home about.  It was great to just catch up and share lots of laughs.

Friday was jam-packed with shopping.  I found a few new pieces to add to my ever needy closet. Friday night we enjoyed a late dinner at Balthazar.  I've always heard such great things about this spot.  It was good but nothing ground-breaking. The Chicago dining/foodie scene has really distorted my views on food.  I find myself being quite the dining critic which is ironic because I can rarely make anything edible in the kitchen myself.

I didn't snap pictures of our entrees but did manage to snap shots of our two desserts.

After dinner, we strolled through SoHo laughing and window shopping.  I spotted this piece of art in one window.  I'm so artsy...not.

We stopped by a bar and had a couple more drinks before heading back to the hotel.

Back tomorrow with another recap and more pictures from our trip!

I can't...

I can't keep this to myself.

It's just too perfect.

Barbour + Wellies + Puppy + Royalty = Perfection.

Happy Wednesday.

{Related: I'll just be sitting here (until further notice) trying to figure out how TG and I can make couple matchy-matchy outfits look this chic.}
